Every country in the world has its own dates for public holidays. Here in the UK the longest established days are fixed to fall on a Monday and we call them Bank Holidays. On these dates all employees are entitled to take the day off – even bank workers – and business stops. In the United States the occasion of a public holiday also usually entails giving gifts and a tradition has arisen of buying or making up holiday gift baskets for your loved ones and friends. These are specially good if you are invited to spend the celebrations at somebody’s home, you can take the gift basket with you or arrange for it to arrive on the morning of the big day.
