All the main blog platforms include auto installed feeds, enabling your content to be delivered (and subscribed to) on the Web. FeedBurner is a free service that allows you to publish your feed using their resources. FeedBurner is the world’s largest feed management provider, and nearly all its add-on services are free. They can help you publicise your feed and get new subscribers.
- Publicize your content and make it easy for people to subscribe.
- Optimize distribution so that your content is properly formatted for all of the major directories and can be consumed by subscribers wherever they are.
- Analyze your traffic to learn how many subscribers you have, where they’re coming from and what they like best.
- Make Money by participating in the FeedBurner Ad Network. Why not reward yourself for your effort?
FeedBurner allows you to track your feed traffic and all kinds of other fun stuff. It won’t create a feed for you from scratch as often believed – rather it wraps itself snugly around a feed you bring in and adds its services therein. It has a few premium options for the serious feed publisher, too.
People ask me all the time if I suggest that they use FeedBurner’s plethora of free feed enhancement tools. I have always answered a resounding “Yes!†– But lately FeedBurner has moved itself to a whole new level.
Did I mention most of these tools are free, and can help increase the traffic you get to your blog, by using your feed? Don’t believe me – go to http://www.feedburner.com and see for yourself.

We were talking last night about adding yet another wordpress blog to our hosting panel at Hostgator and I started to realise how much we get for our money – $9.95 a month for all our hosting requirements. We can host unlimited subdomains, 999 add-on domains, plus unlimited MySQL databases. I seem to have nine MySQL databases installed, and I hope one day I will work out the reason for them. We also have an unlimited disk space allowance and 50,000 mB of bandwidth (of which we used two per cent this month). The real beauty for me is the ease with which I can create new WordPress Blogs. The process takes literally seconds and uploading different themes via File Transfer Protocol is simple. I have tried three other hosting companies before I found Hostgator a year ago. The transfer process was hassle free and whenever I have needed help I have used their online chat facility. You can sign up with Hostgator now, and give yourself an easy time.

I have learned the hard way a few months ago that we all need to take data security more seriously as there are plenty of malicious people out there with software ready to hack into your email, web site and hard disk – let alone your online financial files. If you are familiar with the term ‘zip’ related to files, you know this started out as a way to save space. There is a new software release from securezip that moves zipped files into the arena of data protection. Their new product means you can use it to protect all the confidential material on your PC hard drive, laptop or any other portable device. You can secure all the personal information against hackers. At the moment they are offering the download free of charge: this is a genuine limited time offer so if you want to up your security level, check it out.

Bloggers wanting to monetize their blogs now have an extra income generation stream at PayPerPost. In addition to taking the featured blogging assignments available on the blogging network website, registered PPP bloggers can now get paid to blog direct from advertisers, using PPP as a payment processor. This means the blogger gets a bigger share of the income – the company takes just ten per cent to cover payments processing costs and the blogger keeps the rest. I think this is a benefit to bloggers who want to expand their income generation activities. I have taken direct posts from webmasters wanting to increase their link popularity and often I can negotiate a good payment for the blog posting. However I have to deal with all the administration – negotiating the fee, informing the advertiser, invoicing and ensuring that the payment is made. If the company is not a paypal user there is also a problem as they may want to pay by cheque and if they are in another country there are all sorts of problems in getting my hands on the money – which is the whole point of the exercise. With this new system I can display a link in the sidebar of my blog inviting interested advertisers to book a sponsored post promoting their item.

I am a complete dummy with wordpress, and really I am a little nervous of using it. I know wordpress is rated highly by most bloggers – maybe, unlike me, they have never inadvertently deleted their own blogs from the server! Recently I realised that when my blog posts are viewed individually in the Kubrick template, the sidebar content does not appear on the post page. (more…)

I have redesigned the WordPress theme on this blog, no longer am I restricted to using the default or Kubrick template now that I have got to grips with uploading new themes. I am not completely happy with the header, I would like to be able to place written copy over the header illustration. But I am happy with the three column layout. So far, so good.

I have found that some of the bloggers’ social bookmarking sites are very useful. I am not sure if these meet strict criteria for ‘social bookmarking’ but they have some very useful features. MyBlogLog allows me to show my Income Generation Blogs to fellow bloggers and join blogging networks. Another favourite site is Mysiteprofile. This is not a busy site yet, but the members are serious and sharing and the site is very well designed. The site has proved to be a good vehicle for Blog Promotion and I have made contact with some very good bloggers over there.
