Blogging Income

Bloggers wanting to monetize their blogs now have an extra income generation stream at PayPerPost. In addition to taking the featured blogging assignments available on the blogging network website, registered PPP bloggers can now get paid to blog direct from advertisers, using PPP as a payment processor. This means the blogger gets a bigger share of the income - the company takes just ten per cent to cover payments processing costs and the blogger keeps the rest. I think this is a benefit to bloggers who want to expand their income generation activities. I have taken direct posts from webmasters wanting to increase their link popularity and often I can negotiate a good payment for the blog posting. However I have to deal with all the administration - negotiating the fee, informing the advertiser, invoicing and ensuring that the payment is made. If the company is not a paypal user there is also a problem as they may want to pay by cheque and if they are in another country there are all sorts of problems in getting my hands on the money - which is the whole point of the exercise. With this new system I can display a link in the sidebar of my blog inviting interested advertisers to book a sponsored post promoting their item.

Learning Wordpress

I am a complete dummy with wordpress, and really I am a little nervous of using it. I know wordpress is rated highly by most bloggers - maybe, unlike me, they have never inadvertently deleted their own blogs from the server! Recently I realised that when my blog posts are viewed individually in the Kubrick template, the sidebar content does not appear on the post page. Read more »

Blog Theme and Design

I have redesigned the Wordpress theme on this blog, no longer am I restricted to using the default or Kubrick template now that I have got to grips with uploading new themes. I am not completely happy with the header, I would like to be able to place written copy over the header illustration. But I am happy with the three column layout. So far, so good.

Social Bookmarking for Bloggers

I have found that some of the bloggers’ social bookmarking sites are very useful. I am not sure if these meet strict criteria for ’social bookmarking’ but they have some very useful features. MyBlogLog allows me to show my Income Generation Blogs to fellow bloggers and join blogging networks. Another favourite site is Mysiteprofile. This is not a busy site yet, but the members are serious and sharing and the site is very well designed. The site has proved to be a good vehicle for Blog Promotion and I have made contact with some very good bloggers over there.

Best Blogger Resources

All the main blog platforms include auto installed feeds, enabling your content to be delivered (and subscribed to) on the Web. FeedBurner is a free service that allows you to publish your feed using their resources. FeedBurner is the world’s largest feed management provider, and nearly all its add-on services are free. They can help you publicise your feed and get new subscribers.

  1. Publicize your content and make it easy for people to subscribe.
  2. Optimize distribution so that your content is properly formatted for all of the major directories and can be consumed by subscribers wherever they are.
  3. Analyze your traffic to learn how many subscribers you have, where they’re coming from and what they like best.
  4. Make Money by participating in the FeedBurner Ad Network. Why not reward yourself for your effort?
  5. FeedBurner allows you to track your feed traffic and all kinds of other fun stuff. It won’t create a feed for you from scratch as often believed - rather it wraps itself snugly around a feed you bring in and adds its services therein. It has a few premium options for the serious feed publisher, too.

People ask me all the time if I suggest that they use FeedBurner’s plethora of free feed enhancement tools. I have always answered a resounding “Yes!” – But lately FeedBurner has moved itself to a whole new level.
Did I mention most of these tools are free, and can help increase the traffic you get to your blog, by using your feed? Don’t believe me – go to http://www.feedburner.com and see for yourself.

Trapping Spam Comments in Wordpress

I am so nervous of Wordpress I have tweaked with it as little as possible. After a few days I found that the blog was receiving dozens of unwanted spammy comments every day - most of them pornographic - so I did a little research to find out how to prevent them. Apparently the Aksimet plugin, a standard installation in the wordpress repertoire, does the job. I activated it and went my Wordpress account for the activation key. Like magic, this little gizmo has been doing the trick ever since. That was one of the best things I learned this week.

Get your Blog Noticed at Technorati

I have just started a new blog and I had to remind myself of all the most effective places to list it. If I were more organised I could send you to a page with all the details, my excuse is that the situation changes constantly. Many major blog directories where I submitted my blogs six months ago are now offline. One enduring favourite is Technorati, where you can post your blogs and your blog profile for free. It is simple to register and list your pages by claiming your blog. There are three ways to do this, and as part of the claim they give you a link to display on your site linking back to your blog profile. Now your blog will appear in the Technorati Blog Directory and if you use tags - or labels as they are called at Blogger - you imrpove your chances of appearing in Technorati searches. You can also set your Technorati profile up to ping Technorati every time you update your blog. If you spend some time getting familiar with the Technorati site you should soon see increased traffic to your blogs.
