The house that we bought for my Mother has a full set of replacement uPVC windows and doors, and it makes such a difference to the maintenance.  There is, of course, no painting to do, and most of them can be cleaned from inside which means you do not have to pay a window cleaner. I have never experienced a house with a PVC front door, and it is very different from a wooden one.  The noise from outside is reduced because the door is so well insulated.  Unfortunately I still have to pay from more Home improvements in my buy to let property, including some new windows.  But the costs have come down somewhat, and they are very affordable now.
