Learning Wordpress

I am a complete dummy with wordpress, and really I am a little nervous of using it. I know wordpress is rated highly by most bloggers - maybe, unlike me, they have never inadvertently deleted their own blogs from the server! Recently I realised that when my blog posts are viewed individually in the Kubrick template, the sidebar content does not appear on the post page. This is very limiting for the blog reader, who gets only two navigation options - next post and last post. The answer is to change the template of the file called ’single.php’ and include the ‘get_sidebar’ command immediately before the ‘get footer’ command. Very simple but I don’t understand why it was not included as a default.
